Eric Whitacre Residency
Anna Lapwood and Pembroke College are excited to announce a new partnership with composer & conductor Eric Whitacre beginning in January 2022. As Visiting Composer, Eric will be working with Pembroke's choirs on a number of projects, and, alongside facilitating his work with the choirs behind closed doors, we are pleased to be able to open two events to the general public, free of charge.
At 9pm on 5th January, Eric will be conducting the Chapel Choir in a service of Compline. This short, candlelit service will include two of the Chapel Choir's favourite pieces: Sleep and Lux Aurumque. The service will be followed by drinks in the Chapel cloister. If you would like to attend then please click 'going' on the Facebook event so that we have an idea of numbers. Seats will be allocatd on a first-come first-served basis.
At the end of the residency, Eric will be working with Anna and the Chapel Choir to run a workshop for young singers. The workshop is open to anyone aged 14-18 and will feature two of Eric's most popular works: Sing Gently & The Seal Lullaby. It will run from 10:30-12:30 on the 8th January, and music will be provided. The workshop is free to attend. All young people interested in singing are encouraged to apply, regardless of previous experience! We will offer places to as many singers as possible within the confines of Covid restrictions in early January, and we will allocate places based on achieving an even split across all voice parts. The deadline for applications is midnight on the 28th December, and invites will be sent out on the 2nd January. If we are unable to offer places to all applicants then there will be a waiting list in case there are any cancellations. Singers can apply for a place on the workshop at this link:
